Bio.

Horsehead is Rock & Roll like it is supposed to be played.

After an extended break from criss-crossing the country and performing in Dragstrip Syndicate, Jon C. Brown began to write in a style that was closer to his true love of rock & roll. Horsehead derives it’s inspiration from such greats as The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Faces, Waylon Jennings, Howlin' Wolf, Eddie Hinton, The Band & Neil Young. Jon rejoined with Dragstip Syndicate’s former guitarist, Kevin Inge, to anchor the lead guitars for the new band. Jon and Kevin were now off and running.

The next task was to form a solid rhythm section. Jon requested the services of two veterans of the rock/pop world. Accepting his offer, bassist Bob Rupe of The Silos, Cracker & Gutterball, and drummer Andre Labelle, former drummer for Vinnie Vincent and Josh Todd from Buckcherry, joined the group. In October 2005, Horsehead set out to record their debut album with Bob and Jon handling both engineering and production duties. Released in April 2006 Horsehead’s debut album “Record of the Year”, is a thick and syrupy mix of rock & roll fused with country and soul.

The band showcased regionally and was also well received to crowds all along the East Coast. In 2007, bassist Bob Rupe left the band and Randy Mendicino, former bassist of Heath Haynes & the Crying Shames, took his place. Reinvigorated, Horsehead's writing and rehearsal sessions moved at a rapid pace, studio time was booked and the new line up was set to record the 2nd album in the fall of 2007.

Released in early 2008, “Welcome To…” the second release from Horsehead, builds upon the sound of its predecessor "Record of the Year" without abandoning the hooks and harmonies that made that album successful. The band has gelled into a streamlined powerhouse that can effortlessly combine musical styles because of the seasoned players involved.

Since the release of “Welcome To…”, Horsehead has been a featured guest on WRIR radio’s playlist, and has performed several times on air accoustically. The sessions were recorded and feature dramatically different arrangements of the songs without losing their initial punch. Horsehead has also been featured on GAC Search for the Next Great American Country Star and One Land, One Band. Horsehead has also been picked up for distribution in Europe and with the assistance of publicist Peter Holmstedt of Hemifran, the band has now received positive press from all across Europe and Scandinavia.

A third record is now half written with many additional songs not far from completion. The new material should be recorded soon, with a release date in the U.S. in spring 2010. A European tour is currently being planned and will take the band to Scandinavia, Holland, Germany and possibly England. The tour will mark the first time the band has been overseas. In addition to the tour and new studio material in the fall, an opportunity for a live album is in the works as well. It would feature material from all records as well as unreleased tracks, a possible unreleased cover or two and dramatically new arrangements of some older songs. Rock & Roll like it is supposed to be played.

*Keep your eyes open for Horsehead this summer, as tour dates and venues are being confirmed now.
